We would like to invite you to the summer school Beyond Borders: Health, Migration, and Diversity in an Interconnected World organised by the UNIC alliance partner Koç University, which will take place from 14 to 25 July at the Rumelifeneri campus in Istanbul.

We would like to invite you to the summer school Beyond Borders: Health, Migration, and Diversity in an Interconnected World organised by the UNIC alliance partner Koç University, which will take place from 14 to 25 July at the Rumelifeneri campus in Istanbul. 

The summer school is designed for graduate students and PhD candidates, early career researchers, who will have the opportunity to learn about the most recent research and practical solutions in the fields of migration, superdiversity and health. 

The programme includes two weeks of lectures, lab sessions and discussion sessions which will be led by distinguished international faculty members and experts in the field.

Funding
The full program fee for the program is 1500 Euros. The fee covers all course materials, social activities, field trips, two meals (breakfast and lunch) a day and coffee breaks on lecture days, on campus accommodation (fee without accommodation is 1000 Euros). The tuition fee for online participation is 500 Euros.
There will be one scholarship provided for 1 applicant from the University of Lodz (student or PhD student). The scholarship covers:

  • Travel costs – lump sum of PLN 2000
  • Subsistence costs – 300 PLN/day
  • Additional scholarship – 75 PLN/day for students or 125 PLN/day for PhD students

The selection of the successful applicant who will receive funding for participation in summer school will be made on the basis of the application documents, in cooperation with the coordinators of the summer school from Koc University. 
The mobility will be financed from the budget of the project ‘We are UNIC!’ funded by the European Union under the programme "Support for European University Alliances", NAWA project FERS.01.05-IP.08-0219/23,EU's funding amount PLN 62,505,297.60..

The programme of the summer school implements the following learning outcomes:
 

Knowledge
1.    Understanding Superdiversity: Knowledge of the complex interplay of multiple dimensions of diversity within populations, including ethnicity, language, nationality, gender, and socioeconomic background.
2.    Health Challenges in Superdiverse Societies: Awareness of the health challenges faced by migrants and superdiverse populations.
3.    State Policies and Interventions: Familiarity with state policies and interventions that promote social inclusion and integration for diverse migrant groups.
 

Skills
1.    Holistic Approaches to Health and Well-being: Ability to develop inclusive approaches to health and well-being that recognize the intersectionality of migration experiences.
2.    Creative Methodologies: Skills in employing creative methodologies to research and address health and well-being related concerns of migration.
3.    Networking and Collaboration: Proficiency in engaging with scholars, societal partners (NGOs, policymakers), and peers to foster collaboration and share good practices.

Attitudes
1.    Inclusivity and Empathy: Cultivating an attitude of inclusivity and empathy towards diverse migrant groups and their unique challenges.
2.    Resilience and Adaptability: Developing resilience and adaptability in addressing the dynamic and complex nature of superdiverse societies.
3.    Commitment to Social Inclusion: A commitment to promoting social inclusion and integration through tailored interventions and policies.
