Wyniki UŁ w tegorocznym naborze do programów Ministra Nauki i Szkolnictwa Wyższego

The University of Lodz is among the universities that have been awarded funding from the Minister of Science and Higher Education under the following programmes: Excellent Science II and Social Responsibility of Science II. Of 12 applications submitted by our university, 9 projects received funding.

The call for both competitions ran from May to June 2024. Due to the limited number of applications that the university can submit, the competition was preceded by internal call, as a result of which 12 applications representing the University of Lodz were selected.  

Excellent Science II Programme: 

  1. "Ku aplikacji badań humanistycznych: rekonstrukcja a studia nad źródłami historycznymi" [Towards the application of humanistic research: reconstruction and studies on historical sources] – proposal by the Waldemar Ceran Research Centre for the History and Culture of the Mediterranean Area and South-East Europe, Ceraneum, Prof. Maciej Kokoszko 

The project covers the organisation of the 7th international, multidisciplinary scientific conference Colloquia Ceranea, which will include thematic panels devoted to the history of food, medicine and cosmetology in antiquity and Byzantium. It combines presentations of theoretical research (conference papers) with practical activities (workshops), which is a novelty in the field of humanities research. 

Funding amount: PLN 88,660.00. Project duration: 2024 – 2025 

 2. "XX International Colloquium on Amphipoda" – proposal by the Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection, Prof. dr hab. Michał Grabowski

The project concerns the organisation of the jubilee, twentieth edition of the international conference International Colloquium on Amphipoda at the University of Lodz. The conference will be a forum for direct exchange of experiences and discussion of research results and their practical applications for researchers at different stages of their careers, from different countries and continents, focusing on amphipods as model organisms in ecology, ecotoxicology, physiology, biomonitoring, environmental protection, taxonomy, evolutionary biology, genetics and developmental biology and related topics. 

Funding amount: PLN 187,539.00. Project duration: 2024 – 2026 

  1. "Międzynarodowa konferencja naukowa Contemporary Challenges of Tax Law" [International scientific conference Contemporary Challenges of Tax Law] – proposal by the Faculty of Law and Administration, Dr Małgorzata Sęk 

The project involves the organisation of a two-day international scientific conference during which the results of research by representatives of world and Polish tax law science on contemporary challenges of tax law will be presented. Celebration of the anniversary of the birth and scientific work of Prof. Włodzimierz Nykiel will be an accompanying event of the conference.  

Funding amount: PLN 81,232.80. Project duration: 2024 – 2025 

  1. "Tłumaczenie monografii "Ciało i społeczeństwo" na język angielski" [Translation of the monograph "Body and Society" into English] – proposal by the Faculty of Economics and Sociology, Dr Dominika Byczkowska-Owczarek 

The aim of the project is to translate into English the monograph with the original title "Ciało i społeczeństwo. Socjologia ciała w badaniach i koncepcjach teoretycznych" edited by Dr Dominika Byczkowska-Owczarek (Łódź, 2023) and to publish it in open access.  

Funding amount: PLN 56,782.00. Project duration: 2024 – 2026 

  1. "Flagrante bello. Wielka wojna wschodnia w relacjach prasy warszawskiej (1787–1792)" [Flagrant bello. The Great Eastern War in the Accounts of the Warsaw Press (1787–1792)] – proposal by the Faculty of Philosophy and History, dr hab. Małgorzata Karkocha  

The aim of the project is to translate into English the book by Małgorzata Karkochay entitled "Flagrante bello. Wielka wojna wschodnia w relacjach prasy warszawskiej (1787–1792)", Lodz University Press, Lodz 2021. 

Funding amount: PLN 78,186.00. Project duration: 2024 – 2025 

Social Responsibility of Science II Programme: 

  1. "Badania nad literaturą polską jako narzędzie wspierające integrację Polonii australijskiej" [Research on Polish literature as a tool supporting the integration of the Australian Polish community] – proposal by the Faculty of Philology, dr hab. Tomasz Cieślak,  Associate Professor at the University of Lodz 

The aim of the project is to use the scientific achievements and the human and organisational potential of literary scholars working at the Institute of Polish Philology and Logopaedics, University of Lodz, for the benefit of the Australian Polish community. The project supports the cultural, educational and social activities of the Polish community in Australia by implementing literary (and, as an auxiliary, linguistic) research. The programme includes podcasts, lectures popularising research on Polish culture, literature and the Polish language, prose and poetry workshops, meetings with writers and consultations with a linguist, glottodidactics specialist and speech therapist. 

Funding amount: PLN 315,991.60. Project duration: 2024 – 2026 

  1. "Od drzeworytu do fotolitografii. Zabytki „czarnej sztuki” i albumy w zbiorach Biblioteki UŁ" [From woodcut to photolithography. “Black art” relics and albums in the collections of the University of Lodz Library] – proposal by the University of Lodz Library, director Tomasz Piestrzyński  

The aim of the project is to protect, develop old prints and album publications from the 19th and 20th centuries characterized by interesting iconography of the subject, graphic design, time and place of creation or printing, small circulation of the edition or low availability of the work, variety of graphic techniques, binding and provenance and make them and available in a digital form. The selected collection includes unique items listed either in several copies or not listed in the collections and catalogues of Polish and foreign libraries and available sources and bibliographies, i.e. views of cities, towns, regions and landscapes (copperplate plates of the Alps, maps and views of Brandenburg and the Duchy of Pomerania and the Scandinavian countries by famous cartographers, geographers, engravers and landscape painters), engravings presenting historical places, album publications with views of European cities and towns, engravings presenting landscapes from various parts of the European continent. 

Funding amount: PLN 220,000.00. Project duration: 2024 – 2026 

  1. "DIGITUS INDEX. Inwentarz rękopisów Biblioteki Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego" [DIGITAL INDEX. Inventory of manuscripts of the University of Lodz Library] – proposal the University of Lodz Library, director Tomasz Piestrzyński 

The aim of the project is to protect, develop and disseminate unique manuscript collections gathered in the University of Lodz Library, which are of significant importance for science and cultural heritage on a national and European scale, i.e. 14th- and 15th-century illuminated prayer books, 16th-19th-century record books, royal letters, as well as 17th-20th-century guild documents. 

Funding amount: PLN 149,600.00. Project duration: 2024 – 2026 

  1. "Digitalizacja i udostępnienie kolekcji cennych dysertacji doktorskich z nauk humanistycznych" [Digitisation and making the collection of valuable doctoral dissertations in the humanities available] – proposal by the University of Lodz Library, director Tomasz Piestrzyński

The aim of the project is to preserve, digitise, develop and deposit in the University of Lodz Repository several hundred doctoral dissertations in the field of humanities defended at the University of Lodz until 2010, which do not have digital versions and, due to their subject matter, are a valuable source of information for researchers in the field of humanities. These are works by scientists who are still active in Polish science, long-time teachers, but also researchers recognized abroad, winners of international grants and awards, including: Andrzej Indrzejczak, Bogusław Śliwerski, Elżbieta Jung, Leszek Engelking, Przemysław Dakowicz, Maciej Świerkocki. 

Funding amount: PLN 218,900.00. Project duration: 2024 – 2026

  • The Excellent Science II Programme supports projects aimed at presenting scientific achievements, including the latest research results or development work, by organising scientific conferences, publishing scientific monographs or translating them into congress languages (English, French, Spanish, German, Russian or Italian). 
  • The Social Responsibility of Science II Programme supports projects aimed at popularising science and projects related to maintaining library resources of significant importance to science or its heritage.
