The KRUP meeting was held at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń
In addition to current issues, such as the universities’ internationalisation strategies, the rectors devoted much attention to the need to develop new evaluation principles. This was reflected in the adopted "KRUP Position on the Evaluation of Scientific Activities for the Years 2022-2025". The document reads:
With a sense of responsibility for the development of science, convinced of its decisive role in shaping the future of our country, the Conference of Rectors of Polish Universities reiterates its deep concern about the current evaluation principles. We are convinced that the results of evaluation based on these principles will not reflect the actual state of science in Poland.
Distorted results of evaluation conducted on the basis of the current rules will bring serious and unjustified consequences in terms of the distribution of subsidies, the granting of scientific and teaching qualifications and access to science funding programmes.
The Conference of Rectors of Polish Universities once again calls for immediate action to avoid or minimise the negative effects of the current evaluation procedures.
As rectors associated with KRUP, we declare our readiness to cooperate and develop new principles of evaluation.
I, too, appeal for cooperation with the academic community on the forthcoming academic evaluation of universities. The activities of public institutions, including universities, must of course be evaluated, but let this be done sensibly, without haste, caring above all for people and what they do best
– commented Prof. dr hab. Rafał Matera, Rector of the University of Lodz..
The KRUP meeting was held at Nicolaus Copernicus University, which was celebrating its 80th anniversary. One of the events was the Polish Science Gala organised on the occasion of Polish Science Day – a holiday established in recognition of the outstanding achievements of Polish scientists.
During the gala, the Minister of Science and Higher Education presented awards for significant achievements in the field of scientific, teaching, implementation, organisational activities and for overall achievements.
