After the opening, the event participants had the opportunity to listen to a lecture by Prof. Bahman Jabbrian Amiri from the Faculty of Economics and Sociology. In his presentation, he talked about the historical and cultural aspects of the Chaharshanbe Suri observances and their significance for contemporary Iranians.
After the lecture, everyone moved to the open area, where the most spectacular part of the event began – the celebration of Chaharshanbe Suri in the open air. Traditionally, a bonfire was lit and the gathered guests jumped over the flames. This is a symbol of purification and a new beginning. The whole thing was accompanied by energetic Iranian music, which everyone really enjoyed.
There was also no shortage of culinary experiences – extremely hospitable Iranians prepared traditional Iranian delicacies, which allowed participants to immerse themselves even more in the atmosphere of this unique holiday.
The observance of Chaharshanbe Suri was a great opportunity to celebrate and learn about the rich culture of Iran. The event was very well attended, and its participants underlined how important such initiatives are in building openness and mutual respect in the academic community.
The International Hub is already announcing further events aimed at integrating international scientists and doctoral students with the entire University of Lodz community, which we really encourage you to attend!
The event was held thanks to the support of NAWA from the ERA TALENT project, which is financed as part of the European Union’s Horizon Europe programme under grant agreement number 101103476.
